Occupational Noise Testing & Training

Prolonged exposure to high levels of occupational noise isn’t just uncomfortable – it can cause permanent hearing damage and risks other serious health impacts. In Western Australia, managing occupational noise is mandated by the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 and various other industry standards. Failure to do so can exposes occupant to long-term risks and businesses to compliance-related issues.

Noise Monitoring, Audits & Assessments

To protect occupants and visitors from prolonged occupational noise exposure, ENVSS offers a suite of monitoring services. Our officers conduct compliance testing, site mapping and other workplace noise assessments to provide recommendations for reducing exposure. All activities are designed to ensure your compliance with WA’s Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 and it is recommended that testing is completed at least every 5 years in order to meet those obligations.

Noise Officer

Formerly known as noise assessors, our noise officers are the core of our occupational noise services. They implement all of the services you see on this page and can also develop plans tailored to the needs of your project. Audiometric Testing

Using a Pure Tone Air Conduction Threshold test, we can conduct audiometric testing for each staff member on your site. We are an approved WorkCover WA provider and construct our testing to ensure worker safety and your compliance with Australian Standard 1269.4. As per Western Australian regulations, these are assessments are required within 3 months of a worker’s commencement, or at least every 2 years after that.

Noise Awareness Training

Conducted either onsite or via Zoom/Teams, our Noise Awareness Training courses provide participants with the knowledge they need to work safely in areas with significant noise. The course covers all of the requirements set out in AS/NZS 1269.3:2005 Occupational Noise Management, including health effects, measurement practices, hearing protection and more.

Can you conduct your own noise assessments or audiometric testing?

While some basic noise observations can be made with an internal assessment, proper regulatory compliance requires testing to be performed by trained professionals using calibrated equipment. This ensures data is accurate and suitable for legislative reporting. Our team includes approved WorkCover WA providers and experienced noise officers who will ensure your assessments meet national and local regulatory standards.

Our audiometric testing units are mobile, so testing can be conducted on your site. Although small and self-contained, the testing trucks are equipped to meet controlled testing conditions and allow us to perform assessments with minimal disruption to your operations. This option may be ideal for you operate on a remote or high-traffic industrial site.

According to Western Australian regulations, workplaces where employees are regularly exposed to noise levels exceeding the exposure standard must conduct occupational noise assessments at least every 5 years. Audiometric testing is required within 3 months of a worker commencing in a noisy environment, and must be repeated at least every 2 years to monitor ongoing exposure and detect early signs of hearing loss.
