Respirator Mask Fit Test
Fit testing for N95, 3M, disposable, half-face, full-face, and SCBA masks using quantitative methods to ensure. compliance with Australian standards.
A perfect fit is crucial in ensuring that Respiratory Protection Equipment (RPE) provides optimal protection. Poor fitting equipment will cause leakages of contaminants into the breathing zone and compromise the health and safety of the wearer. It is now a requirement of the AS/NZS 1715:2009 Selection that all RPE be fit tested
ENVSS’ mask fit testing verifies that RPE forms an adequate seal around the breathing area and that the wearer is provided necessary protection against contaminants. In our 15 minute test, we use quantitative methods, including the latest PortaCount fit testing technology, to gauge leakage and protection for the wearer. Mask fit testing simulates actual use through moving, breathing and talking exercises.
Respirator fit testing can be conducted for most brands of disposable and reusable masks. This includes P2, 3M, Sundström and Scott. You are welcome to have your own equipment tested or test some of the brands we have in stock.
Beyond ensuring your employees’ equipment meets safety standards, the 15 minute test also includes:
- Proper Equipment Use Training: We provide each wearer with equipment use training, instructing them on how to properly wear and adjust their protective equipment to achieve the best possible fit. This training also covers the proper maintenance and care of the equipment and changes to the wearers fit that may require repeat testing.
- Comprehensive Reporting: We provide detailed reports that document the fit factor and the overall effectiveness of the respirator. This documentation is crucial for compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and helps you maintain your safety records.
RPE fit testing can be conducted in our dedicated Perth facility at 10 Bermondsey Street, West Leederville. Alternatively, ENVSS can conduct mask fit testing on your site with out fully equipped mobile service, minimising effects on your daily operations.
It is required that attending personnel be clean shaven and refrain from smoking for at least 30 minutes prior to testing. Please not that there are no shaving facilities on site.
To ensure that your employees’ RPE meets Australian safety standards, arrange a fit test with ENVSS either through an existing account or via a prepaid booking.
What do I need to bring to a mask fit test? You only need to bring your personal RPE to a mask fit test. If you would rather, you are welcome to test some of the RPE we stock at ENVSS.
When is respirator fit testing required? There are many situations where respirator fit testing will be required: when RPE is first issued to the wearer, on an annual basis for all tight-fitting RPE, when the wearer, employer or a medical professional have reason to believe the RPE no longer fits due to face changes, weight changes or scarring or when an employee experiences a medical condition that could impact their safe use of RPE.
Which respirators and other RPE need to be tested? Respirator fit testing is required for all kinds of tight fitting masks, including: all disposable masks (known as either P2 or N95 masks), half-face masks, full-face masks, full-face self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) masks and full-face powered air purifying (PAPR) masks.
What are the requirements for a respirator fit test? We ask that attendees present clean shaven and refrain from smoking for at least 30 minutes prior to testing. After testing, some styles of facial hair will effect the fit and effectiveness of your RPE, whilst others will not. See the graphic in the product gallery for further information.
